What is a Claude skill?

A skill is a folder containing a SKILL.md file: written instructions, sometimes with helper scripts, that teach Claude a repeatable workflow. Claude reads the description in the file and loads the skill when a task matches it.

How do I install a skill with one command?

Use the skills CLI: npx skills add https://github.com/owner/repo --skill skill-name. It works for Claude Code and other agents that read skills. Every skill page on MCPMods has this command ready to copy.

How do I install a skill by hand?

Clone the repository and copy the skill's folder into ~/.claude/skills/. Claude Code loads every folder there that contains a SKILL.md.

Are skills safe?

A skill is mostly text, but it can tell Claude to run shell commands, install packages or read credentials. MCPMods scans each SKILL.md for instruction overrides, hidden actions, pipe-to-shell installers, obfuscated code, destructive commands and credential access, and shows what matched.
